Built for the Gulf Coast

Painting Homes in St. Petersburg's Climate

St. Petersburg is surrounded by water on three sides, and paint feels it. Salt air off Tampa Bay and the Gulf, near-constant humidity, ten months of strong sun, and summer afternoon storms all work on a finish at the same time. Add a housing stock that runs from 1920s bungalows in the Old Northeast and Kenwood to mid-century block ranches across the rest of Pinellas, and every home needs its own plan.

Salt air and humidity

Homes near the bay, the beaches, and the Intracoastal get a salt film that eats into paint and metal. We pressure-wash with a mildewcide and rinse salt off before priming, and we use coatings rated for coastal exposure.

Year-round UV

Florida sun fades and chalks paint faster than anywhere in the Midwest. We use 100% acrylic exterior coatings with UV-resistant pigments, and we will steer you away from the deepest colors on west-facing walls if longevity matters to you.

Historic wood and mid-century block

Old Northeast, Kenwood, and Crescent Lake bungalows have original wood siding and trim that need scraping, sanding, priming, and careful caulking. Block-and-stucco homes from the 1950s onward need crack sealing and a masonry conditioner instead.

Storm season prep

We check the forecast daily in summer, plan exterior work for the morning hours before storms build, and keep the schedule flexible so a coat is never applied to a wall about to get rained on.

St. Petersburg exterior painting calendar

We paint exteriors year-round in St. Petersburg, but the dry season from October through May is ideal: lower humidity, cooler surfaces, and no daily thunderstorms. Summer work is done in the morning before storms build. Interior projects are scheduled any time of year, and summer is a popular season for them.

Start to finish

What's Included in Every Home Painting Project

  1. 1

    Free on-site estimate

An estimator walks your home with you, measures, talks through colors and finishes, and sends a written quote covering labor, materials, prep, and cleanup. No surprises after the job starts.

  2. 2

    Pressure wash and prep

Exteriors are washed with a mildewcide solution and rinsed of salt, cracks are sealed, chalky stucco is conditioned, and wood trim is scraped, sanded, and caulked. Interiors are patched and sanded smooth.

  3. 3

    Priming where it counts

Bare wood, bare stucco, patched areas, stains, and major color changes get primer. Sound existing paint does not need it, and we will tell you which is which.

  4. 4

    Two finish coats

Applied by sprayer with back-rolling on stucco so the paint works into the texture, and by brush and roller on wood siding, trim, doors, and interior walls.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and walk-through

The work area is tidied every day. When we are done, you walk the whole project with the crew lead and we touch up anything you point out before we leave.

Straight talk on pricing

What Affects the Cost of Painting a House in St. Petersburg

Every estimate is specific to your home, but the same handful of things move the number. Knowing them ahead of time makes the quote easier to read.

Surface condition

Light chalking and hairline cracks are routine. Peeling wood siding, heavy stucco cracking, or salt-damaged trim adds prep hours.

Square footage and stories

A two-story home with a screened lanai and multiple rooflines takes more ladder and masking time than a single-story ranch of the same footprint.

Trim, doors, and details

Historic bungalows with wood windows, porch railings, and brackets take far more hand work than a block ranch with simple fascia and a garage door.

Color change

Going from dark to light, or light to a deep color, usually needs primer and can add a coat.

Interior scope

Ceilings, trim, doors, and closets are priced separately from walls, so you can include or leave out what you want.

Product choice

Premium UV-, salt-, and mildew-resistant lines cost more per gallon and last longer near the water. We will show you the options rather than default to the most expensive one.

Good to know

St. Petersburg Home Painting FAQs

When is the best time of year to paint a house exterior in St. Petersburg?

October through May. Humidity is lower, surfaces stay cooler, and there are no daily afternoon storms, so paint cures evenly. We paint exteriors in summer too, working mornings and watching radar, but the dry season gives the most predictable schedule.

How long will exterior paint last on a St. Petersburg home?

With proper prep and a quality 100% acrylic coating, most homes here get five to eight years before they need a refresh. Homes right on the water, sun-facing walls, and dark colors fade first. Light colors and premium coastal-rated lines last longest.

Does salt air really affect paint?

Yes. Salt settles on surfaces as a film that holds moisture and breaks down paint and metal, especially within a few blocks of the bay, the Gulf, or the Intracoastal. We rinse it off before priming and use coatings rated for coastal exposure, and an occasional fresh-water rinse between repaints helps the finish last.

Can you paint my historic bungalow's original wood siding?

Yes. Old Northeast, Kenwood, and Crescent Lake homes have wood siding and trim that repaint beautifully with proper scraping, sanding, priming, and caulking. Tell us the age of your home when you request an estimate so we can plan prep for older paint layers.

Do you seal stucco cracks before painting?

Yes. Hairline cracks are filled with elastomeric patching compound and wider cracks are routed and sealed. Painting over unsealed cracks lets water in behind the coating, which is how blistering starts.

Can you paint during hurricane season?

Yes, with a flexible schedule. From June through November we plan exterior work for mornings, check the forecast daily, and will pause rather than apply a coat ahead of a storm. Interior work is unaffected.

Do you provide the paint, and which brands do you use?

Yes, paint and materials are included in your estimate. We work primarily with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore lines formulated for Florida sun, humidity, and coastal exposure, and we are happy to use a specific product if you have one in mind.
